22.66% hike in general insurance premiums in Feb 2011

MUMBAI: The month of February this year registered an increase of 22.66 per cent at Rs 3,403.95 crore in the gross premium income of the insurance industry in comparison to the last year.

As per the data, the general insurance industry collected Rs 2,775.86 crore by writing policies in Feb 2010.

With a hike of 26.33 per cent at Rs 1,463.25 crore, the private companies has outshined in the market in comparison with public sector players who managed to collect Rs 1,940.70 crore premium. The industry has marked 22.5 percent increase at Rs 37,909 crore in the gross premium income for the tenure of April to February of current fiscal.
